Flying Spring Beetle – Hairpin

Silver hairpin based on a spring beetle’s shell, hand-coated with multiple layers of silver. In this process, the shell burns out (800 C), leaving the perfect, empty shape of a real insect. The beetle was given to me as part of the entomological collection and died a natural death. The chitinous shell of an insect is similar to a seashell – it does not decompose for a very long time, even when the creature has been dead for years. With my work, I want to pay him respect and pay attention to the beauty of these creatures. This hairpin is one of the 5 small insects that I made as a set in the years 2021/2022.The beetle is decorated with topazes (Swiss Blue) and its wings are gold-plated.
