Guides – earrings

The earrings were inspired by the “Machu Pikchu” (Mudec Museum, Milano) exhibition about the civilizations that once inhabited the regions of South America.I remember the story of the mythological hero of the Moche people (100 CE – 800 CE; today’s territory of Peru) – Ai Apaec. To save the world and find the lost Sun, he set off on a journey to the world of gods in the sky and the interior of the oceans, sacrificed his life and ended up in the world of the dead, but came back to finally bring back the sun and rain to people so that they would never suffer fear and hunger again. He was able to do this thanks to items with animal symbols that conveyed to him the unique abilities of these creatures: a crown with owl feathers (thanks to which he could get to the world of the gods), jaguar fangs (travel in the mortal world) and earrings with symbols of snakes. When he fought his last fight against his most dangerous opponent, he lost and was killed. But thanks to the snake earrings, he could safely get to the ancestral world and travel through it.

This is why I called my earrings the “Guides”.

Raw emeralds, although they come from Pakistan, remind me of South American civilizations. Snakes are supposed to be a symbol of protection and help in a safe passage through difficult times, black tourmalines (Afghanistan) are said to have the power to repel misfortune. Orange sapphires are set in the middle of snake ornaments (gold plating).

2 raw emeralds, 2 tourmalines, 2 orange sapphires (1.5 mm and 1.8 mm)
