With great pleasure I would like to announce that the Regional Museum in Toruń https://muzeum.torun.pl/ratusz-staromiejski/ will host my solo exhibition “Fairy Tales Written with Silver”. The opening ceremony will be held on the 24th June, and the exhibition will last until the 20th August 2023.
This unique museum is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and in its interiors you can admire the works of Jan Matejko, Wojciech Gerson, Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, Jacek Malczewski, Julian Fałat, Andrzej Wróblewski and Zdzisław Beksiński.
Exhibition’s description:
Jewelry is a unique art form and one of the expressions of admirable human skill enclosed in one tiny object. It requires not only the continuous development of a man as a creator and artist who has something important to say to the world, but also a man as a craftsman, because it does not forgive the smallest technical errors. The value of this enormous work, which is done with one’s own hands, mind and soul, is even greater when it is made of unique, beautiful and expensive materials, because it often requires the jeweler’s dedication to the act of creation.Vivienne Becker, a well-known art historian, said that in ancient times goldsmiths were seen almost as priests, because through their inspired work they had almost direct contact with the gods.
Iwona Tamborska devotes her whole life to creating objects that send such a message.
Her exhibition is an invitation to immersion into the world of imagination and to see the surrounding beauty through her eyes. A sensitive soul can read in these jewelry pieces stories about the beauty of the world. The artist practices the art of mindfulness – she tries to understand how petals and wings of insects are built, how tiny grains of sand shimmer. She focuses especially on the smallest things that are beautiful and magical to her. And that’s what she shows in her jewelry: the fairy-tale world that surrounds us, the stories that can happen around us, if only we could see them. In silver sculptures, she tries to tell stories about the beauty around us, but also about sadness and deep emotions that we struggle with every day – often unnoticed. Because in her eyes these emotions make people more beautiful and real.
The exhibition presents 42 pieces of jewelry art in the modern interpretation of the Art Nouveau style, some of which have recently returned from the National Museum in China, some were presented only at the exhibition in Geneva, and some were created especially for this event.
The exhibition space itself is like an enchanted island, partly shrouded in darkness, partly illuminated with spotlights, where the singing of birds reverberates quietly in the background. It is like an asylum, the visit of which allows for a temporary escape from reality.
