Regina the Toad

A few months ago I was asked to do an extraordinary piece – a huge, silver toad with a friendly soul and the grace of a princess. It was an extremely difficult project – I knew conceptually what I had to do. But the reality kept presenting new, unforeseen difficulties and forced me to invent and apply many tricks, thanks to which the toad, despite its size, is at the same time quite light (because it is empty inside) but also resistant enough to serve as a box. In addition, it is also a brooch and a pendant (and it sits flat, when put aside as a desk decoration). Regina the Toad holds a ring with a garnet, which can be used as a pendant bail. Toad’s eyes are full of bright flashes and a magical look thanks to the embedding of black labradorites in them. Bottle-green tourmalines (14) are set on the back as toad lumps. It has a gilded crown decorated with diopsides on its head. She has a diopside ring on her finger, and rubies are embedded in two of her claws. The back, feet and dewlap are diamonted, and the toad itself is colored tonally.
