Ying Yang kittens

This is a very unusual custom-made piece of work, which I got excited to work on because of the unusual material. The client shyly asked if I would agree to make the main stone / pearl from her extracted tooth (eight). The pearl would be surrounded by figures of her cats: white (in fact striped) and black like the symbols of ying and yang. I found the idea to be fantastic! So far, I have only done one piece with my tooth, but it was more sculptural and conceptual, and this project assumed creating something beautiful out of things seemingly not intended for this, additionally surrounded by some taboo (I don’t know why). It was also a research experience for me – I found out how incredibly hard the enamel is, how thick it is, but also how brittle. The bone hidden beneath it is extremely soft in comparison.
