On March 12-14, 2025, the Amberif International Fair of Amber and Jewellery (Gdańsk) will host my jewelry exhibition entitled “The Emperor’s New Clothes”.
The title of the exhibition refers to several aspects:
1. to the words that various Internet users often write when commenting on my work: “You can’t wear this!”, “What kind of jewelry is this?! It’s for looking at, not walking!”, “It’s more for some king!”
2. to the fairy-tale aspect of my works (and therefore Andersen in the title of the exhibition)
3. to the fact that my jewelry is so eye-catching and (quite) large that you could just as well be naked (or dressed in a literal “rag”) and still look royal 😉
4. to the fact that my works are (in my opinion) foreign-different than the aesthetic values that I encounter around me. I often feel as if I disgusted some people with my work in the “emperor’s court” so far.
5. to my frequently appearing thoughts that maybe jewelry already belongs to the world of fairy tales and emperors, like this fairy tale, published in the 19th century?
On the Amberif website, it encourages you to visit the exhibition: https://amberif.pl/en/agenda/iwona-tamborska-new-robes-of-the-emperor/
During these 3 days of the exhibition, you will be able to see 30 exhibits of jewelry nature, conceptual sketches and “photos by Margo Skwara, a graduate of the Photography Academy and Vision Lab at the University of Luxembourg, a member of the Luxembourg Federation of Photographic Art (FLPA). The photographs will present Iwona Tamborska’s jewelry on Renaissance-style models.” – quote from the Amberif event website.
