Fire Birds – sapphire necklace
I made this necklace on commission for a person close to me. The stage of its creation began with my film about sapphires and the legends associated with them. If someone watched it, they may remember the 2 types of sapphires that were associated with the most juicy stories: star sapphire and sapphire with inclusion. The star sapphire was supposed to have protective properties, helping (like a star on a compass) to choose the right direction of life choices, protecting against misfortune. The sapphire with inclusion, on the other hand, was called an “Inkluz” or a “Familiar”. Because in this blue-colored stone a spirit was supposed to hide in the form of an inclusion/crack/something disturbing the homogeneous structure of the crystal, visible to the naked eye, and had the power to fulfill the owner’s wishes. So the essence of the creation of this necklace was to find these two sapphires of worthy beauty. The road was long and difficult, but finally, thanks to my contacts gained during the exhibition in Geneva, I managed to find Inkluz in Sri Lanka, from where it came to me. The project was suggested by the Client herself – she really wanted the motif of the Fire Birds – creatures from Slavic folklore, whose fiery feathers had magical powers. So I covered the silver birds from the necklace with gold flakes at a high temperature, which perfectly matched the idea of the Fire Bird. I even recorded a film of how the inconspicuously lying Fire Bird, upon contact with a gold flake placed on paper, in a moment ignites the paper into black dust, and the gold itself fuses with it.
